Himalayan Encounter - Uttranchal
Tour Duration: 08 Nights / 09 Days
The valleys and mountain of Garhwal Himalayas never fail to surprise on the traveller in search of the picturesque. Though it is almost impossible to know and roam about every comer of the Himalayas, but this would also mean that there are always new corners to discover; be it a forest or meadow, a glen, a small clearing, a soothing cool fern lined cobbled pathway, a gurgling mountain stream, a wayside shrine or maybe a very old Deodar (Alpine) that is actually a God!!
Day - 01

Train to Haridwar and Drive to Rishikesh (25 Km. ? Hrs.)

In the early morning, you will be transferred to the Railway Station for your train to Rishikesh. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your Hotel.

Rishikesh is located some 24 km north of Haridwar, on the right bank of the Ganges, surrounded on three sides by the Himalayan ranges. Legend has it that God revealed himself to Raibhaya Rishi as 'Hrishikesh', after a long penance, and this sacred spot was henceforth known as such. This is essentially a pilgrim town, and the bulk of the pilgrims are simple villagers whose intense devotion gives both Haridwar and Rishikesh a special atmosphere. At sundown each evening there is a service at the side of the river, at the bathing ghat in the middle of the town, at which tiny candle rafts are lit and let out into the choppy water to float away into the dusk. This is highly recommended as there is a very special ambience at this time.

The northern part of the town is called Muni-ki-Reti and refers to the silver shores of the river where the Rishis of old meditated. Across the Ganga, are more temples, Ashrams and museum. These large, sprawling but well-maintained ashrams teach yoga and publish books on the scriptures. Rishikesh is also the starting point of several treks and pilgrimages to the holy shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. In the afternoon, you might like to visit Shivananda Nagar, just north of Rishikesh; the multi-storied and multi-coloured temples of Lakshamanjula, straddling the river a little further north; and the assorted ashrams around Swarg Ashram on the east bank. Overnight in Hotel.

The path is well constructed, probably many, many years old with shale rock planted sideways to give good footing. This temple is dedicated to Shiva, and according to Hinduism this is a part of "Panch Kedars" (five Kedars). Besides the excellent mountain views of entire range of snow clapped Himalayas (Kedarnath, Badrinath and Mt.Trishul ranges extremely panoramic views of Panchchuli, Nandadevi, Dunagiri, Nilkanth, Chaukhamba, and Bandarpoonch are available which soar so high, they seem to touch the sky. All these high peaks are over 6800 mt high with Nandadevi 7818 mt. The first few km we trek through the forest and later suddenly the forest seems to disappear and we find ourselves in the open high altitude meadows with late variety of Himalayan flowers. Everything seems to be so quiet and so romantic that you don't feel like going back to the camp. Trek one more Km to Chandrasila. Chandrasila summit is a rock face above the temple of Tungnath, the highest of all the temples in the Himalayas. It is a short but rigorous hike beyond the temple.
