Jeep Safari in Kinnaur & Spiti Valley
Tour Duration: 22 Nights / 23 Days
For centuries a mystic aura surrounds the Trans - Himalayan tract s of Tibet, Spiti, Lahaul and Ladakh which remained in practical isolation for centuries. It is the ultimate journey in the Western Himalaya. Exploring the Western Himalayas on a Jeep brings more flexibility and access to little known destinations. A Jeep Safari involves experiencing the remote cultures, people, villages, old monasteries etc. to feel the culture and passing through the rugged train of the Himalayas in regions. From the green hillsides of the Shimla hills we journey into the Sutlej valley and on to the fertile valley of Sangla in Kinnaur. From here the landscape drastically changes in dimension and appearance. We enter a hi-altitude desert terrain a lunar landscape full of stark barren hills and craggy mountains giving out an amazing range of colors and hues. Our final destination is Ladakh and on the last laps of the safari you are treated to some of the most fantastic rock forms and -sculpted by erosion - granite hills in the Himalayas. Crossing the 45 Kilometer long More Plain gives you glimpses of the rich fauna of the southern Tibetan plateau home to the Tibetan antelope, the wild ass, marmots, picas, the predatory wolf and fox besides and the elusive snow leopard.

Shimla To Sarahan (1920 M) 190 KM

After breakfast, drive to Sarahan The road to Sangla is crudely carved out of rocks and runs parallel to the river that is deep down in the forge. At some places, there is barely enough space for the bus to wriggle through the rough road and the rock above.

Soaked in nature's beauty, Sarahan is flanked on the banks of the meandering Sutlej River. The way to Sarahan through Fagu, Theog, Narkanda, Rampur, and Jeori is extremely scenic-traversing through mountains flanked by steep cliffs on one side and deep ravines on the other, dense emerald pine forests, terraced farms, and Apple orchards. Once in Sarahan, one beholds a range of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks and one of them is the Shrikhand Peak. The rather peculiar thing about this peak is that it is only one whose tip remains uncovered with snow. In the evening, sunrays adorn the peaks and the sight is simply stupendous. In the heart of Sarahan is the temple of Goddess Bhima Kaali, the architecture of which is very akin to a monastery. Overnight in Camp, Sarahan

Visit Kibber And Kye Monastery. (4200 M) Back To Kaza

Visit Kibber, Its claim to fame as the highest village in the world but it's location at an altitude of about 4200 meters is spectacular nonetheless. Set in the Himalayan mountain deserts, near the upper part of the village is a small Gompa (monastery), and the landscape around it is frequently punctuated with prayer flags, chortens, and small cairns decorated with rams horns, all of which adds to the "last outpost of humanity" feeling.

The road up to Kibber passes by Kye monastery, one of the Spiti Valley's most spectacular Buddhist monasteries, and well worth a few hours of your time. It's a fabulous, almost organic building that seems to be part of the rocky outcrop above Ki village on which it sits. Kye monastery is said to be have been founded by Dromton, the founder of Ge-lug-pa sect in the 11th century, it has a fabulous collection of ancient tankhas (Painting). A description of this monastery by a visiting scholar " the airiness of these highest roofs, the isolation from the hugger-mugger village below, the black yak's tail and the bronze statues and the extravagant prayer flags, all these makes one feel that God cannot be far away". The neatly white-washed mud houses with red bands look extremely picturesque. The contrast is rendered all the more appealing by verdant fields and willow plantations around the village. There is little in the landscape to betray its position when viewed in summer, embosomed in flourishing crops and herds of Pashmina wool goats. Yaks and horses meet the eye upon the high activities of the mountains, and an ardent sunshine keeps the air looming from the effect of mirage. Overnight in Camp, Lossar
