Kachenjunga Trek
Tour Duration: 24 Nights / 25 Days
The trek begins at Uttarey (6,500ft) and a steep ascends to Chewa Bhanjang (2685 mt) on the Sikkim-Nepal border. From thereon, the trek route keeps between the altitudes of 3636 meters to 4242 meters with the highest point being the Dafey Bhir Pass located at an altitude of 4379 meters high. The terrain along the trek route is, therefore, treeless, criss-crossing, steep, rugged rocky hills with grassy meadows forming flat plains at places. Within the folds of these fragile rocky slopes, one comes across several high altitude lake formations of turquoise green water considered pristine and sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists alike. The route also provides close and breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Kumbakarna, Kabru and Kanchenjunga. At places, the trail leads through the rich rhododendron forests of many tinges and hues. The trek route after Gomathang valley goes intermittently through forests of silver fir.
Day - 01

Delhi

You are met at the airport in Delhi and transferred to your hotel. The day includes a sightseeing tour of Sir Edward Lateens’ New Delhi, the garden city built in 1911 by the British. You also visit the Birla Mandir (Laxminarayan temple), the President’s House, Humayun’s Tomb (the forerunner of the Taj Mahal) and the India Gate. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day - 02

Delhi – Bagdogra – Darjeeling

In the morning transfer to airport to board flight for Bagdogra. You will be met by our representative who will escort you to Darjeeling at the distance of 120 kms. An unforgettable thrilling drive that takes 3 hours. Arrive in Darjeeling perched at a height of 2134 meters with a backdrop of the mighty Himalayan peaks and check into the hotel.
Day - 03

Darjeeling

Today, early in the morning you will be visiting Tiger Hill (11 kms) to have an unforgettable experience of catching the black night turn lighter, get suffused with a dull red turning into brilliant orange and then bright gold as the sun rises over the Kanchenjunga range. On the way back visit the monastery at Ghoom.

After breakfast at the hotel visit a nearby tea garden to see the tea plucking and tea making process. Afternoon, visit the world famous Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and the observatory hill. Evening free to explore the local market at the Mall Road. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day - 04

Pelling

After breakfast you take a scenic drive to the beautiful small town of Pelling in the state of Sikkim. The road winds through the tea gardens and the small settlements of the Nepalese and the Bhutias, the natives of Sikkim. We stop at Malli check post to furnish the documentation to enter in the state of Sikkim. We will have a breather stop & a cup of tea at Jorthang before driving to Pelling, which is a drive of further 2 hours. Pack lunch on the way. Upon arrival we check into the hotel. Evening at leisure. Dinner at the hotel.
Day - 05

Uttarey (2320 meters)

After breakfast you visit the Pemayangtse monastery. Thereafter you take a 2 hours drive to Uttarey. Uttarey at the altitude of 2320 meters is a small village bordering West Bengal and Nepal. Upon arrival check into the lodge. Afternoon visit the Uttarey monastery where only the female monks resides and to the Sherpa Village where you visit in few of the houses to see their life-style. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight stay in a Lodge.
Day - 06

Chitery (2700 meters)

After breakfast we start our trek to Chitrey. The trail ascends steeply along with the milky stream. The trek takes 3 to 4 hours to reach Chitrey. Lunch will be served in the camp. All meals will be served by our camp kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 07

Mejar Thang (3364 meters)

Today you follow the trail ascending steeply, leading to Chewabanjan, (3275 meters), situated right at Indo- Nepal border. From Chewabanjan you trek on the ridge on the right side to Mejar Thang, (3364 meters). You will be covering a distance of 9 km in approximately 5 hours. Mejar Thang is a grazing ground that provides a good campsite with scarcity of water.

All meal will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 08

Dhund (3710 meters)

Today you continue on the ridgeline to Dhund. The trail ascends gradually and you can have the first glance of tiers of peaks including Mt. Everest and Mt. Kanchenjunga. The trek takes approximately 6 hours to Dhund. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 09

Pharemegu (4200 meters)

Today the trail ascends gradually to Pharemegu. On the way one can have astounding views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Kabru and of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The trek of 12 km takes 6 hours to reach the campsite. Pharemegu is at the foot of Dafey Bhir Pass. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp. Overnight camping.
Day - 10

Dafey Bhir Pass (4572 meters) & Gamothang (3675 meters)

Today start early as the pass Dafey Bhir Pass (4379 meters). The trail ascends steeply to the top of the pass (4379 meters). You can have the panoramic breathtaking views of the Everest range and the Kanchenjunga range from the top of the pass. Descend to Gamothang (3575 meters) takes another 3 hours. It will be fairly a long day as you cover 19 km in approximately 8 to 9 hours. Packed lunch will be served. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 11

Yangshep (4136 meters)

The trail ascends steeply till Boktak after that it climbs gradually to Yangshep. The total distance of 9 km is covered in 7 hours. You have astounding views of the peaks from this place. At early morning hours you have good and close views of the Everest massif and other major peaks. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 12

Yangshep

Rest Day. Explore the surroundings. All meals in the camp. Overnight at camp.
Day - 13

Tegyapla River (3666 meters)

Fairly easy trek of 14 Kms. is covered in 06 hours. The trails pass through the HMI base camp, where the Institute conducts basic & advance mountaineering course. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 14

Dzongri (4320 meters)

Easy trek of about 4 hours takes you to Dzongri. On the way you can see the Mount Kanchenjunga and its shoulder peaks. Dzongri is a big grazing ground where you will come across yaks and yak-huts. All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at camp.
Day - 15

Thangsing (3930 m) Trek

An hour trek through the meadow and thereafter a steep downhill trek take you to the Thangsing River. After crossing the river from left bank to right bank over a wooden bridge, the trail ascends gradually to Thangsing, which takes an hour and a half. Thangsing offers a spectacular view of Mt. Pandim in North Sikkim. There is a trekkers hut where you can stay.
Day - 16

Samiti Pokhri (4500 m) Trek

Trek to Samiti Pokhri is gradual trek of three hours. The last stretch consists of a steep climb (20 minutes). As soon as you are on the top of the mountain you get a beautiful view of the Samiti Pokhri. One can see the Blue Sheep and Mountain Goats at the morning hours and late in the afternoon at the lake. Overnight at camp.
Day - 17

Guicha La - Thangsingh - Thangsing River Trek

Start early in the morning the trek to Guicha La (4940 m). It involves a steep climb of 3 hours. Once on the top you see only Mt. Khanchenjunga in front and no other peak or mountain range at the background. After spending an hour’s time at the top of the pass trek back to Thangsing River via Thangsing. Overnight at camp.
Day - 18

Tsoka trek

From Thangsing River camp take the left side trail leading to Phedong. The Yaks take the right side route to Phedong via Dzongri. Trek to Phedong is gradual and is narrow at some stretches and passes through dense forest.

The trek from Phedong to Tsoka village is a steep downhill trek of 1.5 hours.

Upon arrival at Tsoka village, which is also a Tibetan re-settlement village, you have an option of either camping or staying at the tourist lodge with basic facilities. Overnight at camp.
Day - 19

Yuksum Trek

A downhill trek of 4 hours takes you to Yuksum. Upon arrival in Yuksum check into the lodge. Rest of the day free to explore the village.

All meals will be served by our kitchen. Overnight at the Lodge.
Day - 20

Gangtok (1547 m)

After breakfast drive to Gangtok in 07 hrs and check in at the hotel. Evening free to explore the colorful vegetable market.
Day - 21

Gangtok

After breakfast half day guided excursion to Rumtek Monastery (24 kms). Return to hotel for lunch and after lunch visit Research Institute of Tibet logy: Rare, Tibetan, Sanskrit and Lapcha manuscripts as well as statues and icons used in Buddhist liturgy are found in the Research Institute of Tibet logy. You also visit the Govt. Institute of cottage Industries which houses traditional arts and crafts of Sikkim. The center offers training to the youth and its products like hand woven carpets, wood and Bamboo works are world famous. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day - 22

Kalimpong

After breakfast drive to Kalimpong. It is a scenic 80 km drive along the Teesta Valley to Kalimpong, which was center of the wool trade with Tibet. Here Buddhism rubs shoulders with Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. Gompas, churches, temples, monasteries, monks and missionarie. Flower and orchid nurseries, colonial bungalows, churches of the “Raj”, and Buddhist monasteries are there to explore. Evening is free to explore the bazaar. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day - 23

Kalimpong

After breakfast proceed for sight seeing to the monasteries, Temples and Churches of Kalimpong. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day - 24

Bagdogra & Delhi

Today you are transferred to Bagdogra airport to board flight for Delhi. You are met upon arrival and transferred to the hotel.
Day - 25

Delhi

According to your International flight schedule you will be transferred to the airport for homewards journey.
