Tribal Tour Orissa
Tour Duration: 14 Nights / 15 Days
Orissa, in southern India is a world of lush and green mountains with rich paddies and terraces everywhere. You will meet a few of the various tribal groups that inhabit this State. in particular the very colourful and unusual Kondh, Gadabba and famed Bonda tribe, whose animist societies are totally separate from and in great contrast to the traditional Hindu societies found all over India. As we explore weekly markets be prepared to meet people whose features are far from Asian than Indian, decorated with facial and hand tattoos, layers of beads covering bare breasts, piles of aluminium necklaces and a multitude of earrings. Jeypore in Koraput district in Orissa is feast for the eyes and cradled in nature’s bounty. The awe inspiring sights make Koraput a Traveller’s delight.Natrue speaks a variety of languages, which the lover of nature translates into joy. The breath taking scenery brings heaven to earth. The virgin nature with untouched and unexplored tribal and their rich cultural heritage provide tourists a lot to enjoy and feel places to visit and things to do.
Day - 01

ARRIVE DELHI BY INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT

Arrive in Delhi & Meet with our Airport representative. Thereafter transfer in Private Car to your preferred hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day - 02

DELHI

After Breakfast meet your Guide at the lobby of the Hotel. Visit Old and New parts of Delhi - each with its specific charm and glory - makes a very interesting city for its sustenance to medieval and modern cultures at the same time and space. In the first half you will visit Old Delhi - including Jama Masjid (Mosque), Gandhi?s Cremation Site and a Rikshaw ride to Red Fort followed by the visit of Humanyun?s Tomb, Qutab Minar and a drive past the government buildings in Delhi. Return to hotel.
Day - 03

DELHI TO BHUBANESHWAR MORNING FLIGHT

After breakfast at hotel transfer to airport to board flight to Bhubaneshwar. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. Bhubaneshwar once former part of the ancient kingdom of Kalinga and today some 500 of the original 7,000 temples that studded the area survive. The temples are a sharp contrast with present day relatively new city of modern architecture. The largest temple to visit is the Lingaraja Temple dating from the 11th century. The 55m high spire dominating Bhubaneswar. The 10th century Mukteswara Temple is considered to be the gem of Orissa temple architecture with an exquisitely carved ?Torana? (gate). Half day visit of temples.
Day - 04

BHUBANESHWAR TO BALLIGUDA (305 Km / 07 Hrs)

After Breakfast at hotel depart by surface for BALLIGUDA, visiting typical Orissan villages. Balliguda falls in the district of Phulbani - a land of beautiful mountains, numerous villages echoing with the rhythms of tribal culture and forests full of adventure and wildlife. No sooner you approach the neighborhood of this beautiful district then you listen to the forests sounds, which are as if the fairy folk are calling you and as you drive up and down the ghat roads you cannot escape the inviting warm smiles of the local people. (If it's evening or the nightfall, you may be surprised to see animals like a Tiger or Cheetah or a herd of elephants.) Upon arrival check in to your hotel & Overnight.
Day - 05

BALLIGUDA TO RAYAGADA (165 Km /4 Hrs)
After breakfast at hotel, depart by surface for RAYAGUDA en route visiting the famous Kondh tribes & their villages. which is the biggest tribe (950,000), and are famous in history for their Meriah Sacrifice-Human Sacrifice (Nowadays buffalo's are sacrificed instead of humans) Kondhs life is full of festivities. The important festivals are at the time of sowing and harvesting. The Kodhs belong to the Dravidian group and speak Kui language. Their weapon is bow and arrow by which they defend themselves from wild animals. Also Visit the weekly tribal market. Upon arrival at Rayagada, check in to your Hotel & Overnight
Day - 06

RAYAGADA TRIBAL MARKET

Today, Monday, you visit the weekly market day of the Saora tribals. The afternoon is at leisure, to explore. Overnight at Hotel.
Day - 07

KONDH TRIBAL MARKET

Today, Tuesday, you visit the weekly market day of the Kondh tribes, historically known for their "Mariah Sacrifice", or "Human Sacrifice"; this has now been replaced with animal sacrifice. The members of this tribe still use bows and arrows to protect themselves from wild animals. The Kondhs are of Dravidian origin and speak Kui language. They practice elaborate birth, marriage and death rituals.

Enjoy a picnic lunch. Return to Rayagada for overnight stay at the hotel.
Day - 08

DHONGRIA KONDH TRIBAL MARKET AND VILLAGES
Today, Wednesday, you visit the Chatikona area, a half-hour drive from Rayagada, to see the weekly tribal market of the Dhongria Kondhs, the highland settlers who are settled around the Niyamgiri Hills and are expert horticulturists. It is a unique opportunity to see such a colourful concentration of tribal people in one place. Continue your drive to Jeypore; a distance of 200 kms. En route, visit the Desia Kondh tribe and their villages. Jeypore is the centre of the colourful, tribal Koraput district with its Sal forests, rice fields, waterfalls, forests filled with wildlife, tiny villages that are merely a cluster of mud huts, and tribal women clad in traditional costume and stunning jewellery. Overnight stay at Hotel in Jeypore.
Day - 09

BONDA TRIBAL MARKET AND GADABBA TRIBES

Enjoy a full day's visit to Onukudelli (180 kms round trip) to see the famed Bonda tribes and their weekly tribal market on thursday. This wild and most interesting tribe lives remotely, on the high hills to the northwest of the River Machkund, and keeps itself isolated.
In the afternoon, visit the Gadabba Tribes, their village and lifestyles. They are one of the most colourful and primitive tribes of Orissa with their own language, Gutab. Their economy centers on agriculture, and they build their houses in two rows facing each other. Return to Jeypore. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Day - 10

KUNDALI TRIBAL MARKET

Paraja Tribal Villages In the morning, visit the weekly friday market at Kundali. Drive to Jagdalpur, Chattisgarh, visiting the Paraja Tribal villages en route. The Parajas are broadly divided into two sections; the Bada Paroja and the Sana Paroja. Men usually wear loin cloths and the women wear coarse saris, while small children go naked. Jagdalpur is a small, developing town in the Bastar District of Chattisgarh State. Tribal people comprise almost three fourths of Bastar's population, each with their own indigenous culture of spirits, deities, dialects, customs and food. Overnight Jagdalpur.
Day - 11

KANGER VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy a day trip to Kanger Valley National Park, 27 kms from Jagdalpur. The rich sal and teak forests retain the original intensity of the forests that once covered the entire region and contain within them an abundant variety of fauna and flora, and forest tribal people in their natural habitat. Visit the enchanting Tiratgarh waterfall and the extraordinary stalactite and stalagmite formations in the Kutumsar and Kailash caves. Overnight in Jagdalpur.
Day - 12

MURIA GOND TRIBE - NARAYANPUR TRIBAL MARKET - KANKER

Your drive to Narayanpur, through wonderful scenery, will take about an hour. This is the principal town of tribal northern Bastar and the heart of the country of the colourful and picturesque Muria and Maria Gond tribes who have preserved their ancient culture. En route to Narayanpur visit a Muria village to see an example of traditional dance by young gotul members. The dress of Maria women consists of a white skirt with the upper portion of the body being left bare; and the men wear loin cloths and turbans which are often adorned with long strings of beads wound several times around combs At the weekly market on Sunday in Narayanpur, you will discover some of Bastar's finest handicrafts and enjoy the opportunity to mingle with these tribal people. In the afternoon, continue your drive to Kanker; a distance of 87 kms and your drive will take about 2 hours. Overnight at Kanker Palace. The family of the late Maharajadhiraj Udai Pratep Deo has opened part of their private residence to visitors where two of his sons will welcome you with warm hospitality. Relax in the pleasant palace grounds or visit the picturesque and historic town nestled on the River Dudh which is dotted with monuments.
Day - 13

KANKER - RAIPUR

Drive to Rajpur (3 hours). Raipur is the capital of the state Chattisgarh and the biggest city of the region. Overnight in Raipur.
Day - 14

FLY TO KOLKATA

You will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight to Kolkata. The afternoon is at leisure for your own activities. Over night Hotel, Kolkata.
Day - 15

DEPARTURE

Departure transfer to Homewards journey.
